In existence since October 2005, WIZARDS OF WORDS is a national association of writers, headquartered in Queen Creek AZ. We elect officers and a board of directors, who, along with our members, volunteer their expertise, efforts and services to present writers' workshops, chapter meetings, and conferences throughout the United States.

Our CHARTER and GENERAL MEMBERSHIPS are made up of published authors. Our ASSOCIATE/Literary MEMBERSHIPS are available to unpublished authors, readers, editors, agents, publicists, publishers, fans, librarians, bookstores, etc.

1. We teach the craft of writing, promotion & marketing, and the business of writing in workshops at conferences. In August 2008 we began our first online workshop, led by author Vicki Taylor.

2. We're all about networking and sharing our success and all we know about writing with one another.

3. We offer financial assistance, upon approved application, and educational scholarships to our workshops and conferences.

4. We provide high-profile keynote speakers and editors from major publishing houses, as well as independent publishers and agents, at our conferences.

5. It is our goal to reach out to the international community.

6. We have an annual poetry/short story contest for our members-only, with certificates and perks for the top 3 in each category, as well as publication in our quarterly newsletter.

7. We place our members' titles in our online book store on our website, and we provide a book store at our annual conferences.

8. It is our goal to set up affiliate writers' groups in each state under the Wizards of Words umbrella and guidelines. First chapter of WOW has been formed by Dian Butler in Phoenix, Arizona - June 2008 ... two more in Phoenix will start in 2009 (Chandler and Scottsdale).

9. We have a Book of the Quarter - members' books that are selected and judged for best book of the quarter. The book is featured in our online book store and on our website. The publisher of the book is notified and reviews are placed on Internet messageboards and bookstores.

10. We have a Book of the Year competition - books that are quarterly winners compete for the Book of the Year. The book is featured on our website for a year, and receives an award at the annual conference, as well as a roll of gold award stickers to place on books. The publisher of the book is notified. Reviews are placed on Internet messageboards and bookstores.

During discussions in writers' groups, on writers' boards, in chat rooms . . . it has become evident that there is an avid interest in combining forces to stage events and conferences throughout this and other countries. There is a need for more workshops, panels, lectures, and readings within our reach to enable us to hone our craft, regardless of publisher and genre. WOW intends to help fulfill that need. The fact that we're open to all genres sets us apart from most writers' groups and conferences.

We believe that WIZARDS OF WORDS is a marvelous vehicle, not only to learn our craft, meet and mingle and exchange promotional, educational & marketing trends, but a means to cultivate life-long friendships with each other and to celebrate our successes.
